Sanya (三亚 Sān​yà​ in het Mandarijn; Ta-ah in het Hainanese) ligt op het zuidelijkste punt van China, op het puntje van Hainan eiland.

• Sanya Bay-strand – strekt zich uit over ongeveer 25 kilometer, maar is nogal vervuild en verstoken van zwemmers. Het is bekleed met visrestaurants en hotels die - 50-5.000 kosten.

• Sanya stad - 's avonds gevuld met souvenirwinkels en straatgrills. Je zult 's avonds de lokale bevolking langs het strand zien dansen en een scala aan mensen die souvenirs, straatvoedsel en kermisspellen verkopen. Probeer de openbare karaoke buiten als je durft! Steek de Sanya-rivier (三亚河 Sānyà hé) over om een ​​minder toeristisch, goedkoper en leuker deel van de stad te bereiken.

In het nieuwe winkelgebied vind je veel restaurants. Zeker een bezoek waard, maar wees voorbereid op hogere prijzen ten opzichte van Sanya.
• Haitang-baai – Niet zo druk als Yalong Bay. 35 minuten van de internationale luchthaven van Phoenix via de snelweg G98. Toekomstige thuisbasis van het grootste belastingvrije winkelcentrum in China. Verschillende luxueuze resorts zijn al actief, evenals een multiplex- en showcentrum.
• Yacheng-stad (崖城镇) – Voorheen bekend als Yazhou (崖州), is dit de oudste stad in de regio Sanya met een geschiedenis die teruggaat tot de Song-dynastie. Het ligt ongeveer 46 km ten westen van Sanya City en is bereikbaar met de bus (Bus Route 58) en hogesnelheidstrein (uitstappen bij Yazhou Station). Hoewel het op geen enkele manier vergelijkbaar is met een van de bekendere oude steden op het vasteland, is het misschien een bezoek waard als je toevallig in Sanya bent en een dag over hebt. De belangrijkste bezienswaardigheden zijn de gerestaureerde Wenming Gate (文明门) en de Yacheng Confucianistische Tempel (崖城学宫). Er zijn ook een aantal interessante dorpen in de omgeving, met name Baoping Village (保平村), dat veel voorbeelden van woongebouwen in Ming- en Qing-stijl bevat.

Begrijpen

Sanya, aangekondigd als "China's Hawaii", heeft 20 km lange stranden. Als de enige tropische stad langs de kustlijn, is het zeker booming en zit het boordevol watersporten zoals snorkelen en jetskiën, wandelen in het regenwoud en ontelbare hotels, variërend van nul tot vijf sterren.

Met het hele jaar door zonneschijn, schommelt de temperatuur zelfs in januari rond de 25°C en in de zomer rond de 30°C. De eilanden en stranden zijn prachtig en het water in Yalong Bay en Dadonghai is schoon genoeg om lekker te zwemmen, maar je kunt ook naar het eiland Wuzhizhou gaan of verder naar het noorden om de ongerepte natuur te bezoeken.

Terwijl toeristen elk seizoen binnenkomen, begint het hoogseizoen van 1 oktober tot het einde van de winter. Tijdens de winter is Sanya een populaire ontsnapping voor Russen die voornamelijk in Dadong Hai (大东海Dàdōng hǎi) en Noord-Chinezen verblijven om te ontsnappen aan het vriesweer. In het Chinese Nieuwjaar zal de stad worden overspoeld met toeristen en verwachten dat alles extreem duur zal zijn.

Als de meest zuidelijke stad van China, Sanya samen met Yangshuo dient vaak als laatste stop voor backpackers die de resterende dagen van hun visum in China willen doorbrengen.

Praten

Hainanese is de belangrijkste lokale taal die in Sanya wordt gesproken. Het dialect van het Hainanese verschilt enigszins van het standaard Hainanese dat in Wenchang wordt gesproken, waardoor het een beetje lastig te begrijpen is, zelfs als u het standaard Hainanese vloeiend spreekt. Dat gezegd hebbende, kunnen de meeste inwoners ook de standaard Hainanese begrijpen.

Net als elders in China, Mandarijn is de hoofdtaal die op school wordt onderwezen en door vrijwel alle niet-bejaarde inwoners wordt gesproken. Sanya is ook de thuisbasis van veel migranten uit andere delen van China die Mandarijn spreken maar geen Hainanese. Dit geldt met name in de winter, wanneer veel rijke Chinezen uit de noordelijke provincies hierheen verhuizen om te ontsnappen aan de bittere kou in hun respectievelijke woonplaatsen.

Zoals in de meeste andere delen van China, wordt er niet veel Engels gesproken, hoewel het personeel van de duurdere hotels en resorts meestal een beetje Engels spreekt. Aangezien Sanya een populaire bestemming is voor Russische toeristen, spreekt het personeel van sommige toeristische attracties misschien wat basis Russisch.

U kunt mogelijk geld besparen door eerst een bullet-trein te nemen naar Haikou en vliegen vanaf de grotere luchthaven van de provinciehoofdstad. Het hogesnelheidstreinstation Meilan bevindt zich in hetzelfde gebouwencomplex als de internationale luchthaven van Haikou. Voor intercitybus, ticket en overnachting kan het verschil groter zijn en moet u rekening houden met 3-4 uur reizen per richting. Naast de bus kun je gemakkelijk "heiche" (黑车 hēichē) taxi's vinden die je tussen de twee steden brengen, voor ¥ 350-500 per auto. Hoewel het illegaal is, kun je chauffeurs vinden die hoffelijk, veilig en betrouwbaar zijn, hoewel dit veel moeilijker is zonder op zijn minst basis Chinees te kunnen spreken.

De busrit van 3½ uur vanaf het busstation Oost in Haikou kost ongeveer ¥ 50. Bussen tussen Haikou en Sanya vertrekken over het algemeen ongeveer één keer per uur, hoewel er een gat van twee uur is tussen de voorlaatste bus en de laatste bus; de laatste bus van Sanya naar Haikou vertrekt rond 18:00 uur.

Met de trein

Sanya is rechtstreeks per trein te bereiken vanuit Beijing (35 uur), Shanghai (36 uur) en Guangzhou (15 uur). De hele trein wordt op een veerboot geladen voor de reis van het vasteland van China naar het eiland en vervolgt zijn reis langs de westkust tot aan Sanya. Aangezien treinen die het eiland verlaten hun oorsprong vinden in Sanya, zijn kaartjes vanuit deze kleinere stad gemakkelijker te verkrijgen dan wanneer ze vertrekken vanuit Haikou.

Hogesnelheidstreinen verbinden alle grote steden en dorpen aan de oost- en westkust. Het duurt 1½-2 uur vanaf Haikou, reist tot 250 km/u.

Kaarten van Sanya tonen ook een station in de buurt van Nanshan Temple genaamd Nanshan North Railway Station (南山北站). Dit station is echter niet meer in gebruik.

Met de bus

Darten in, rond en tussen de stad Sanya en Dadong Hai kun je het beste doen met stadsbuslijnen 2 (snelste) of 4 (met enkele haltes rond de Sanya-rivier) voor ¥2. De bussen rijden langs Jiefang Road (解放路) in de stad Sanya, de straat waar McDonald's zich bevindt, en rijden naar Dadong Bay bij Luling Road (鹿岭路), slechts één halte voorbij het Deer Turns Head Square (鹿回头广场)

Voor uitstapjes verder buiten de stad kun je buskaartjes kopen bij het busstation van Sanya of gewoon bussen aanhouden op de weg die langs het strand van Sanya loopt. Tickets voor de meeste bestemmingen zijn ¥ 1-30. Je kunt ook een busje huren met (of zonder) een Engelssprekende gids van hotels of mensen met wit-blauwe displays in de straten van Sanya City of Dadong Bay. Als je met een Chinese reisgezelschap gaat, zijn er waarschijnlijk enkele uren geplande stops bij "infomerciale" centra, compleet met door de microfoon geleverde advertenties.

Met de lightrail

Er wordt gewerkt aan een lightrailnetwerk. De eerste lijn is officieel in gebruik genomen in oktober 2020. Deze loopt van het treinstation van Sanya naar het stadscentrum. Haltes zijn onder andere Sanya Railway Station (三亚火车站), Yuxiu Road (育秀路), Fenghuang Road (凤凰路), Shuicheng Road (水城路), Sanya River East Road (三亚河东路), Jiefang Road (解放路), Jinjiling Street (金鸡岭街), Youyi Street (友谊街), Yingbin Road (迎宾路), Jixiang Street (吉祥街), Tuanjie Street (团结街), Xinfeng Street (新风街), Guangming Street (光明街) , Yuejin Street (跃进街) en Jiangang Road (建港路). Het tarief is ¥ 3 en het duurt 35 minuten om het einde van de rij te bereiken.

Met de taxi

Het taxitarief begint vanaf ¥8 voor de eerste 2 km en ¥2 voor elke extra kilometer. Vanwege het goedkope tarief zweven taxichauffeurs graag ergens buiten het centrum rond om passagiers met een korte rit te vermijden. Dit maakt het een beetje moeilijk om een ​​taxi te nemen in het centrum. Taxi's zijn redelijk goed gereguleerd en ze zijn meestal in orde met het gebruik van een meter, maar chauffeurs zijn voornamelijk gastarbeiders die misschien niet overal bekend zijn. Sommigen van hen proberen toeristen ook voor de gek te houden dat de plek waar ze naartoe willen gesloten is, en proberen je verder te brengen. Een ander probleem is dat, aangezien Sanya alleen in de winter druk is, er genoeg taxi's zijn om rond te gaan. En de overheid huurt geen taxi's meer in, want in de zomer zouden er te veel taxi's zijn en zouden de chauffeurs geen geld verdienen. Om dit probleem te verhelpen, heeft de regering een andere klasse gele taxi's in gebruik genomen die telefonisch kunnen worden aangeroepen. Er zijn ook tal van motor- en zijspantaxi's. U dient voor vertrek over de prijs te onderhandelen. Prijzen zijn iets lager dan gereguleerde taxi's, maar het hangt af van je onderhandelingsvaardigheden en weten wat de lokale bevolking betaalt voor dezelfde reisafstand.

Met de auto of motor

U kunt ook zelf een motor of een auto huren. Er zijn verschillende plaatsen om dit te doen, met prijzen per uur (¥60), 4 uur (¥150), 8 uur (¥350) of per week (¥1.500). Buiten de piekuren zijn er kortingen mogelijk. Elke bestuurder die niet bekend is met de verkeersnormen in Sanya, moet echter twee keer nadenken over het huren van een motorfiets. Verkeersregels worden halfslachtig toegepast en de toestand van de weg kan gevaarlijk zijn, zelfs als je een goede, gedisciplineerde bestuurder bent. Wanneer u een voetganger aanrijdt, bent u als bestuurder waarschijnlijk degene die de schadevergoeding betaalt.

Bij het huren van een auto of motor heb je een geldig Chinees rijbewijs nodig (internationale rijbewijzen zijn niet geldig). Er is geen uitzondering op deze regel en u kunt tot 15 dagen gevangenisstraf krijgen als u zonder rijbewijs rijdt. In de meeste gevallen gaat het prima zonder, maar in het geval van een ongeluk zal dit een groot probleem zijn.

Er zijn ook een paar attracties op het eiland zelf, waaronder een traditioneel vissersdorpje met enkele oude huizen gemaakt van koraal en een paar kleine musea. De meeste hotels op het eiland accepteren geen buitenlandse gasten. De enige die dat naar verluidt doet, is de Sanya Xidao Xige Inn (三亚喜岛喜阁客栈), die 138 pond per nacht in rekening brengt. De wateren rond dit eiland zijn de mooiste van Sanya. Een populaire plek om te snorkelen en duiken, dit eiland is het slachtoffer geworden van zijn populariteit. Het water is minder helder en er is minder vis dan voorheen, dus kies datums en tijden om de zichtbaarheid tijdens uw bezoek te maximaliseren. Duiken kost ¥ 400-500. Zie ook Sunrise Rock (观日岩). Het is gelegen op de klif in het zuidoosten van het eiland. Als je op de rots staat, heb je een vogelperspectief over het hele eiland en de Zuid-Chinese Zee. De Guanri-rots is als een natuurstenen Boeddha met uitzicht op de zee. Het is ook als een enorme schildpad die naar de uitgestrekte oceaan kruipt. De rots is een ideale plek om van de zonsopgang te genieten. De hoteltarieven zijn schandalig, dus tenzij je veel geld hebt, wordt het niet aanbevolen om te overnachten. Met de veerboot kun je al vanaf 08:30 uur het eiland op. De laatste veerboot terug van het eiland is om 17:30 uur. De veerbootterminal, voorheen bekend als Wuzhizhou Ferry Terminal (蜈支洲岛客运码头), is te bereiken via bus nr. 28 als je uit de stad komt. Als je in Haitang Bay verblijft, kun je Haitang Bus 3 (海棠3号) of Haiyang Bay Bus 1 (海棠湾1路) nemen. Er zijn ook gratis pendelbussen beschikbaar vanaf geselecteerde locaties in de stad, maar u moet online reserveren met behulp van het Chinese boekingssysteem. De standaard toegangsprijs is ¥ 133, inclusief het ticket voor de veerboot. Kinderen kleiner dan 1,2 meter hebben gratis toegang. Het meest gewaardeerde item van het museum is een compleet fossiel van een Sanya Pterosauriër - niet zo genoemd omdat het in de Sanya-regio leefde, maar omdat het Sanya Natural History Museum de eerste was die het identificeerde. • 18.304336109.20616113 Nanshan-tempel (南山寺, 南山文化旅游区 Nanshan Culturele Toerisme Zone), Nanshan Village, Yazhou District (崖州区南山村) (Nanshan is ongeveer een uur buiten de stad Sanya met de stadsbus, die kan worden gepakt bij het busstation of langs de strandweg van de stad (三亚弯路); bussen die hier stoppen zijn onder andere bus nrs. 16, 25, 30, 55, 57 en Yazhou 1), ☏ 86 898 88837946. 08:00-17:00. Gebouwd als een toeristische trekpleister in 1998 met een gigantisch standbeeld van Guanyin (de godin van barmhartigheid) op een platform op de zeetop. Het standbeeld is het belangrijkste hoogtepunt van het park en trekt de meeste mensenmassa's. Het belangrijkste tempelcomplex - ongeveer 2 km ten westen van het beeld - is rustiger en minder commercieel. Andere bezienswaardigheden zijn een paar kleine tempels, een klein museum over het Nepalees boeddhisme en een plaats genaamd Long Life Valley (长寿谷), met een kort wandelpad. Een trolley-auto kan je voor een extra ¥30 door het park pendelen, maar je kunt het beste genieten zonder de trolley, want hij is echt niet zo groot. Een van de weinige grote historische bezienswaardigheden in Sanya. De Yacheng Confucius-tempel is de meest zuidelijke Confucius-tempel in China. Het werd oorspronkelijk opgericht in 1054 en is meer dan een dozijn keer herbouwd en verplaatst. De huidige structuren dateren uit 1832, hoewel er sindsdien natuurlijk enkele renovaties hebben plaatsgevonden. Om hier vanuit de stad te komen zonder de trein te nemen, neemt u bus nr. 58. Ga naar de 3e verdieping. Nadat u op de 3e verdieping bent aangekomen, gaat u linksaf, u vindt de English Corner in een kleuterschool aan uw linkerhand. Het is goed om inside-informatie over Sanya te krijgen, velen van hen zullen u graag rondleiden voor een kans om wat Engels te spreken.

Spelletjes en sporten

Fietsen

Sanya is een populaire bestemming voor pro-amateur motorrijders die graag over het hele eiland willen zweven. Vrijwel alle fietsers nemen echter hun eigen fiets mee. Fietsverhuur is niet zo alomtegenwoordig als andere toeristische plaatsen zoals Yangshuo of Lijiang. De meeste fietsenwinkels bevinden zich op Sanya Hexi Lu (Sanya River East Road), je moet ¥ 1000 betalen voor aanbetaling en de prijzen beginnen vanaf ¥ 40 voor 1 dag huren. Verschillende hostels hebben ook een fietsverhuurservice. Een route van Dadonghai naar Yalong Bay en vervolgens naar Haitong Bay heeft een goed aangelegde, verlichte en gladde weg die zich uitstrekt over 30 km en ideaal is om te rijden. Het stedelijke gebied van Sanya heeft echter het slechtste verkeer in China en de lokale politie is berucht omdat ze onmachtig is in het opsporen van verkeersovertredingen.

Golfen

Sanya heeft een groot aantal oefenbanen, geschikt voor beginners en verschillende veeleisende golfbanen voor meer uitdagingen. Sommige internationale toernooien vinden regelmatig plaats op verschillende Sanya golflocaties. Hotels bieden weekarrangementen aan waarbij u elke dag op een andere baan kunt golfen.

wandelen

In Sanya kunt u waarschijnlijk meer wandelen dan wandelen. Met zijn mooie vlakke landschap en goed ontwikkelde wegen is wandelen niet bijzonder populair onder toeristen. Wandelaars nemen vaak een bus in het Sanya-busstation aan Jiefang Road en gaan naar Wuzhishan (五指山) om hun wandeltocht te beginnen. De bus van 90 minuten is elk uur beschikbaar van 7.00 tot 16.00 uur en kost ongeveer ¥16.

Paintball- en geweerspellen

• Crystalball Gun-spellen (水 弹 枪), Da Dong Hai (BanShanBanDao), ☏ 86 15024310072. Weekend, 14:00 tot zonsondergang. Er is een kleine groep buitenlanders en een grote groep Chinezen die schietspellen (水弹枪) spelen in Sanya. De kanonnen zijn "waterbal" of "kristallen bol" geweren (水弹枪). Ze schieten een kleine "kristal" of "water" bal, vergelijkbaar met een paintball (maar kleiner, met een lagere snelheid en zonder rommel), en de geweren zien eruit als hun echte stalen tegenhangers (het zijn aangepaste airsoft geweren). Twee locaties: een is een "officieel" Chinees veld (doolhof) buiten bij GuoXing Sports Area (nabij het treinstation) (kosten 70 RMB); de andere is een verlaten ziekenhuis dat we hebben opgezet met hout en bandenafdekking / bunkers speciaal voor schietspellen (kosten zijn door donatie). Surfen

Hainan heeft het grootste deel van het jaar een behoorlijk consistente branding. In de zomer brengen de zuidenwinden golven naar de stranden op het zuiden van Sanya. In de herfst tot de winter, het piekseizoen voor surfen, is de oostkust van Hainan de plek om naartoe te gaan. Hainan biedt geen golven van wereldklasse, maar het biedt een redelijk consistente tropische branding, die bijna helemaal leeg is. Als u inbreekt bij het surfen, zijn er een aantal bedrijven waarmee u contact kunt opnemen.

Insight biedt een groot aantal buitenlandse en Chinese gidsen. 

Watersport

Yalong Bay, Dadong Bay, Haitang Bay en Sanya Bay hebben allemaal een verzameling van jetskiën, parasailing, paragliding, snorkelen, duiken, boot met glazen bodem en ATV-bedrijven op het strand. Prijzen zijn over het algemeen niet erg onderhandelbaar (behalve voor duiken en snorkelen), maar de duur van de rit kan dat wel. Ga niet te goedkoop op scubaduiken, om duidelijke veiligheidsredenen.

Hier wordt het dagelijks opgevoerd en met speciale effecten die nergens anders te zien zijn. The only non-profit organization promoting sea turtle conservation in China, Sea Turtles 911's primary facility is a floating sea turtle hospital in Lingshui near Nanwan Monkey Island, as well as programs in Sanya and Haikou. While on Hainan Island visitors are welcome to volunteer with the sea turtles and the organization's educational programs. Recommended donation.

With such a beautiful environment, relaxing on the beach and studying Mandarin Chinese is a fun and productive activity for those with more time. It's also easier to focus on the studying without the distractions of the big cities.

The area produces pearls in abundance and they are sold everywhere.Prices are highly negotiable; overcharging tourists is common.Tour guides get a fat (often 50%!) commission for bringing touriststo pearl shops; try to go without one and beat the price down.

Coconut powders and teas are also popular Chinese buys, but for Westerners looking for something less commercially produced... the cone-shaped hats that women wear here with pictures inscribed are only ¥5 at The First Market (第一市场 dìyī shìchǎng) in Sanya city. Lines 2 and 4 have a stop there. Don't head into the department store; instead, stick to the side of it and walk down the road filled with small shops and street vendors.

Restaurants

There are plenty of good Chinese regional-food restaurants, including many Sichuan, Cantonese, and DongBei places. There are also a few foreign / Western food restaurants, especially Dolphin and Young Bar, and of course the ubiquitous McDonald's (DaDongHai [3] and Jiefang Lu), Starbucks (in Summer Mall) and KFC (105 Jiefang Lu; Duojialian; 63 Guoxing Dadao; Renmin Lu). Seafood is of course also a mainstay in the cuisine of Sanya, and DaDongHai is filled with overpriced seafood restaurants. Inspect the tanks for freshness before eating and beware of the different charges that are often handled by different people at the restaurant (fishery, cooking fee, and sitting fee can be separate). Shellfish go for ¥10-25 per jin (half kilo).

If you agree, after you finish buying, they will take you to their restaurant around the corner and prepare the food for you. Prices range from very expensive (for things like Japanese beef or caviare) to very reasonable for more conventional Chinese dishes.

• Young Bar (Yang's Bar), 97 YuYa Lu, DaDongHai (beside Dolphin Bar). Young Bar is a Chinese-owned foreign food pub. Yang, the owner, often creates community English events (including running an English Corner). Specialities

Hainan grows a great variety of tropical fruits. Mango, apple, pineapples, durian, jackfruit, mangosteen, lycee are very popular and their breeds are colorfully diverse. Hainan is famous throughout China for its coconuts and they are worth trying, especially the red coconuts (红椰 hóng yē). Away from the beach, expect to pay about ¥8-10 for a coconut. Prices increase as you get closer and you may end up paying about ¥15 for a coconut on the beach. Note that fruit price is fluctuating and cheating on its weight is common. Visit any big and well-established chained supermarkets in the downtown of Sanya along Jiefang Road to check the current market price.

A bit after sunset and well in to the midnight, Sanya city's streets are filled with small barbecue stands, noodle stands, and other snack vendors. There is a well-known seafood supermarket called The No. 1 Agricultural Products Market(第一市场)(See address below). You buy live seafood and then take it around the corner to a crowded street where all the restaurants will cook(Jia Gong,加工) the seafood for you for a small fee per dish. It's the most crowded night market in Sanya. You will find a constant assortment of musicians and kids that sell flowers to proposition you while you are eating. It's a great way to save money on eating seafood because there is no markup for the seafood because you purchased the seafood yourself. It's quite a lively environment with guitarists playing, saxophonists playing, customers singing, beer flowing all night long, garbage trucks to come by to pick up the garbage, and the occasional fight. This street starts dying down around the midnight and the crowds head to bar street.

After Bar Street closes, the crowds head to the night food market located at the 1st Lane of Shangping Road (商品街一巷) which is close to Jiefang Road (解放路). Most foods are at the fixed price but try to negotiate a bit for the seafood barbecue. The food and beer flows until the sun comes up.

Another popular after-hours barbecue place is at Wan Jun Long. Not as popular as Shangping Road, but if you are sick of seeing the same people all the time, this is another alternative.(address below)

The vast majority of coffee shops here open around 10:00 or 11:00. There is a Starbucks in the Summer Mall (in DaDongHai). The Jiefang Lu (解放路) McDonald's has thus become a morning pilgrimage for many Westerners (debatable).

Alcohol

Times Coast (Shi Dai Hai An) Bar Street

This is where all the hottest clubs in Sanya are; it's one big circle with about 10-11 clubs. The big three first tier clubs with all the tourists are Soho, MJ, and 88. The rest of the clubs are second tier clubs that have mostly locals and are less expensive. To get here, hop in a cab and say "Jiu Ba Jie". The most popular local brew is Anchor (actually Singaporean but produced in Hainan). Ask for the 'red label' or 'old' brew, which is the original. It is very hoppy and can be a great escape from Yanjing (燕京) or Qingdao (青岛) beer. Those are available, of course, as well. There are also local pineapple-based beers. Odd, but worth a try.

Most of these bars will ask you to buy many bottles at a time (standard practice in China). They are loud, flashy, often bland EDM-anthem places filled with FuErDai and Russians. Mostly tables with people just sitting and drinking, the dance floors are often small and shaped like a model-runway, and often have shows that take place and so everyone just goes and sits at their tables. Foreigners will not get free drinks at these Chinese clubs; you have to go to smaller cities for that (too many Russian tourists in Sanya for that white privilege).

• The Dolphin Sports Bar & Grill (海豚吧), No 99 Yu Ya Rd, ☏ 86 898 8821-5700. close 02:00. This is the foreigner hangout in Sanya. Live band and western food. You will find mostly Russians sitting outside and a mix of people sitting inside. More description of this bar in the restaurant section. 
• Sanya Surf Circus, Dadonghai Beach (in the middle of Da Dong Beach), ☏ 86 13976190715. close 02:00. During the day, they sell and rent surf boards, have surf lessons. Almost every Saturday or Friday, they have a beach party. During these parties, you will see alle the foreigners in Sanya. About 25 percent of the crowd will be Russian, another 25 percent black, and the rest a mix of Americans, Europeans, and Chinese. Run by some Italian guys. They send a mass text message out the day before there's a party. To get on the list, send an SMS to Darci, phone number listed here above. The owners' names are Lillo, Darci, Paolo, and Luca ¥10 a beer. 
• Heroes Valley Bar (英雄谷酒吧), 三亚市港务局码头开发区 (go to Gang Wu Ju and look for Heroes Valley Bar), ☏ 86 898 38899898. close 02:00. They have a big lounge area, but this bar is a "high" bar, most people come here to go to the private KTV rooms on the second floor to do their preferred drug of choice. 
• Rings Lounge (年轮音乐酒吧), 文明路100号 (near the 123 Food Garden), ☏ 86 898 31805577. close 02:00. They have two floors. On the second floor you can sing karaoke where all the customers can hear and see you - not a common thing in China. They also sell Pizza. This is a relatively new bar and they don't have a lot of customers yet. They do have one problem though - because residents live upstairs, they have to turn down the music after 23:00. ¥100 6 beers. 
• 阳光地带 (Yang Guang Di Dai), 520 解放路, 4th Floor (across the street from McDonald's, in the building that says New York Studio or something like that, take the elevator to the 4th floor), ☏ 86 18656710101. close 02:00. This is where all the gay and lesbian people in Sanya hang out. You will find the men in one corner and all the women in another corner. Most of the women have short hair. They sell Anchor beer. There is a wireless microphone and you can sing karaoke. You can pick the songs yourself from the computer. If you are a good-looking male, you will get hit on. ¥120 12 beers. 
• Street Dancers, 河西路双龙大夏 basement (it's in the building called Shuang Long Da Xia, across the street from the 123 Garden Bar). all night. By day this is a Hip Hop Dance Studio, by night it's an underground private Hip Hop Club. Many professional dancers from the clubs come here after the bars close. It's got mirrors on the walls so you can watch yourself dance. They have a DJ Booth. Once a month they have a huge party here. To get in, you would need to know someone who can bring you or just wander in and knock on the door to see if they are friendly. 
• Bierfabriek, Intercontinentaal hotel. They have their own brewery with German beer. Chinese owners brought German brewmasters over from Europe, had them set up the brewery, and then kicked them out (thinking they could run the place without them). As a result, the beer is not very good. You can see all the big canisters and pipes where the beer is brewed and served to you. There's outdoor and indoor seating. Indoor seating has a live band from the Philippines, sometimes. If you come here on Wednesdays, all the beer is half price. ¥36, ¥50, ¥80 for small, medium, big draft beer. (bijgewerkt november 2019)

The surrounding alleyway is not much of a feast for the eyes, but inside has a European motif going on. They serve food and drinks and have three floors. It's a nice place to take a date if you've already seen all the places in town.

Relaxed Coffeeshop (Taiwanese owned) with a variety of coffee drinks and some food (didn't try the food), Reggae music etc. Nice balcony with great view. Good internet connection, good to hang out and surf. Very unique feel to the place. Looks like you can write notes on the coasts and leave them underneath the glass at your table as a memento of your presence here. If nothing on the menu suits your fancy, you can get take out from the BBQ on the street level.

As a general rule, accommodation prices in Sanya are very expensive, particularly during the winter months due to the huge influx of wealthy tourists from northern China.

Begroting

In Sanya city and Dadonghai there are many small, clean moderately priced inns and hotels (¥50-100, even in high season, for 1-3 beds). Some may be located in alley ways just off Sanya's beach street, sometimes several floors up without an elevator (but the view is worth it!).

Sanya exists solely for tourism which is accompanied by annoyances including pickpocketeting and overcharging.

Before arrival, travelers should be wary of getting the right address and most up to date telephone number for their hostels/hotels. Some hostels are located in a new district whose roads have just been laid out. Not many people, including the police, know where specific locations are in new districts. When you get lost, always ask drivers to call the staff.

Para-sailing, diving, snorkeling and boating are popular but operators may not be trained or certified. If you go for diving, always check air tank pressures before. Some Wikitravelers have reported that they received half-empty scuba tanks and found it difficult to inhale smoothly.

Sanya has a lot of local tour packages. Some tours to outlying islands may look cheap, but once you arrive on the spot, operators may charge you extra money for using their equipment. Masks, snorkels and fishing rods can be shabby and expensive to rent. Other tours are shopping traps, complete with ridiculous commissions for the tour guide. Before you join any tour, ask specifically what is included in the fee (beach chair, drinks, boat, fishing rod, snorkel, mask, transportation, admission fees, return transportation, etc.), and what is not (shopping).

Thanks to a heavy crackdown on gangsters, Sanya has become much safer than in the early 2000s. While violent crimes against tourists are rare in Sanya, be wary of pickpocketing, bicycle theft and bag snatching. There are occasional reports of professional drivers zooming alongside a tourist and grabbing their bag. Pickpocketing is common on buses. You should avoid bringing any valuables to the beach as theft is occasionally reported. Lockers on the beach, along their showers and beach chairs, are niet vrij. They will charge ¥20-50, or more, per use.

Sanya is also notorious for overcharging. Scams in seafood restaurants were heavily reported in the Chinese media in 2011. To avoid very unpleasant sticker shock, make sure you know the price of what you are ordering.

As a tourist area, everything sold close to the beach will be 30-100% more expensive than in downtown Sanya due to high rents and the law of supply and demand (lots of tourists, limited prime real estate for restaurants). Furthermore, market prices anywhere in Sanya are slightly higher than Haikou due to the cost of transportation. For seafood lovers who just traveled from inexpensive Haikou, do not expect to pay ¥10 for 4 scallops or 6 oysters.

Traffic rules apparently do not exist. Cars and motorcycles drive on both sides of the road and careen down sidewalks as if they had right of way. Irritating honking is ever-present, even when driving on sidewalks. Tourists should not trust the green traffic light and zebra crossings, because changing lights sometimes encourage drivers to speed up. As elsewhere, do not trust drivers to avoid you; you should always avoid them.

Cars will only stop at red lights. Bikes will only stop at red traffic lights if they are managed by police, otherwise you will watch them zip and weave though all directions of oncoming traffic.

The road dividers on main arterial roads are not there to stop people from running across; they are in place to stop cars from going down the wrong side of the road. Watch a road without these installed and you will see this in practice.

The tap water, even in nice hotels, should not be considered safe to drink as the tap water in Sanya is generally not potable. Bring or buy bottled water if you plan to be outside of your accommodations for long periods of time. If you have access to a kettle in your hotel room or rented apartment, boiled water is fine to drink.

Hainan is considered an active malaria- en knokkelkoorts regio. Note that while there are pills to prevent malaria, there is no way to grow antibodies against dengue fever. If you plan to visit tropical forest zones, bring your own strong mosquito repellent and coil incense.

Terwijl de meeste toeristen Hainan bezoeken voor de steeds levendiger wordende stad Sanya, is het eiland groot en zijn er veel andere, meer afgelegen locaties te zien.

Baoting (保亭), een provincie net ten noorden van Sanya, is een populaire bestemming vanwege de landschappelijke en culturele attracties, waaronder de Yanoda Rainforest Cultural Tourism Zone (呀诺达雨林文化旅游区), het Betel Nut Valley Li & Miao Cultural Heritage Park (槟榔谷黎苗文化旅游区), en het Mount Qixian Hot Springs National Forest Park (七仙岭温泉国家森林公园).

Iets verder van Baoting, ongeveer 70 km ten noordoosten van Sanya, ligt het graafschap Lingshui. Ongeveer 15 km ten zuiden van de belangrijkste stad van Lingshui ligt Nanwan Monkey Island (南湾猴岛), eigenlijk een schiereiland, dat de thuisbasis is van ongeveer 2500 bedreigde makaken, wiens leefgebied je vrij kunt rondlopen. Lingshui is ook de locatie van Perfume Bay (Xiangshui Bay, 香水湾), een relatief rustig en vredig kustgebied, en het schilderachtige eiland Boundary Island (Fenjiezhou Island, 分界洲岛).

De oostelijke stad Afnemend (万宁), tussen Sanya en Haikou is de thuisbasis van Simei Baai (石梅湾 shí méi wān) en Riyue Bay (日月湾 rìyuè wān), de eerste die het grote en zeer afgezonderde Le Meridien herbergt, en de laatste die een populaire plek is geworden voor surfers met een beperkt budget. Het goedkopere hotel is ¥480 per nacht, dus geen superbudget. Neem de langzame (niet-express) bus naar Haikou vanaf het busstation en vraag om afgezet te worden bij de respectievelijke afslag van de snelweg (¥30, 90 min, betalen in de bus). Zorg ervoor dat je ze eerst je kaartje laat zien, anders brengen ze je naar een andere stad waar een taxirit van 5 km terug ¥ 100 in rekening wordt gebracht. Om terug te komen, loop je naar de snelweg en markeer je een bus. Expressbussen stoppen niet om u op te halen. Een taxi naar beide locaties kost ongeveer ¥ 300.

De Paracel-eilanden, in China bekend als de Xisha-archipel (西沙群岛), zijn prachtig, afgelegen en vol met tropisch leven. Een van deze eilandenketen was naar verluidt vroeger een exotische vakantieplek, maar is nu verboden terrein voor buitenlandse reizigers vanwege territoriale geschillen. Als u echter een Chinees staatsburger bent, kunt u daar een cruiseboot nemen vanaf de Phoenix Island International Cruise Terminal (凤凰岛国际邮轮港). Een retourtje duurt ongeveer 64 uur en kost ongeveer ¥4000.
